The Story

"It's spicy and savoury on the nose, showing dark berry, dried herb, earthy mushroom and nutmeg aromas, leading to a finely textured palate that's beautifully rounded and lingering. Splendidly framed by elegant tannins, finishing wonderfully long and expansive. At its best: now to 2028" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit

Foothills Pinot Noir exhibits complex floral, red fruit and spice aromas. The palate is rich with red currant and warm spice flavours, backed up with ripe, smooth tannins and a long finish. This is a food friendly style that will benefit from cellaring for up to six years. Recommended serving temperature 16-18°C.

Pinot Noir is sourced from Sileni’s vineyards in the Mangatahi sub-region, inland Hawke's Bay. Soils are free-draining silt over gravels. Named for location of our flagship Pinot Noir vineyard, located inland Hawke's Bay at higher altitude.

Low crop loads provide ripe and concentrated fruit flavours. Fruit was destemmed into open top fermenters which were hand plunged to gently extract colour and tannin. The wine completed malolactic fermentation and was matured in French oak barriques for nine months.

Food Pairing: Hearty pastas, mushroom dishes duck and New Zealand lamb.
